Uses
It's main purpose is utility: It can act as a border for shade. It attracts butterflies and gets attention from insects. It also gives off a sweet honey fragrance. This plant is found in patio's, backyards, and parking lots. One can even "train" the plant into a tree by eliminating low-slung, drooping branches, and heading upright branches when they are small in span to thicken their diameter. It can also be trimmed into a hedge or elevated screen to block an unwanted view. It is also not toxic and can be used in recipes such as Jamaican chicken stew, and Lemon Flounder with Capers.
